Tomb Raider: The Angel of
Darkness |
Introduction: Tomb Raider was one of the most innovative games of its
time, and almost single-handedly created the action/adventure genre.
However, as the years went on a trend developed. This trend was that a new
Tomb Raider would hit the market ever year. As this trend continued, the
series began to get rather stale, and sales dropped. Rather than to
continue to milk the franchise though, Eidos and Core have decided to
resurrect the series on the Playstation 2.
Main Preview: The game is looking great so far. The graphics are much
better, with the new Lara model being made up of 5,000 polygons. That is a
lot better, compared to the 500 polygons that made her up in previous
versions of the series. Another thing that had changed it Lara’s days of
raiding tombs, which is something it looks like she won’t do in this
edition. Framed for the murder of her former mentor Von Croy, she is now
on the run. Angel of Darkness also promises to be a much darker game, as
it looks like Lara will run into some rather shady characters. Lara also
has a whole slew of new moves, including one where she sneaks up behind a
guard and breaks his neck, like in Metal Gear Solid.
My Thoughts: Tomb Raider: The Angel of Darkness is looking great so far.
The graphics have been upgraded significantly, and Lara has a bunch of new
moves. Plus, the story looks to be taking a much darker turn this time
around. The one thing that is not known is if the game will control good
or not. If Lara moves as smoothly as she looks, AOD could be great.
Last Words: This newest edition in the Tomb Raider franchise is looking
great so far. Eidos is basically starting over from scratch this time,
rather than use the tried and true formula. If they get the game to
control and play as good as it looks, than it could be great. Tomb Raider:
The Angel of Darkness is set to hit the PS2 in November of this year.
