Onimusha 2: Samurai's Destiny

Date: 4/8/02

Introduction: The original Onimusha was a pretty good game, and while not pushing the PS2 as much as some other games, still managed to be a great game. Now, Capcom is preparing a sequel and it is looking great.

Main Preview: Onimusha 2 may look a lot like it’s predecessor at first, as both games do have a similar style. The graphics have improved though, as there is more detail in both the characters and the background. The main characters so far are Jubai and Oyu, a female ninja. There are also going to be new villains and enemies as well, and it looks like none of the characters from the original will be back. The game also looks as if it will play like the original. Also, the game will feature multiple colors of spirits for you to get powers from, which is like the original.

My Thoughts: Although not pushing the PS2 too far, the original Onimusha was a cool game. The second one is no exception, and it looks awesome. This time the game has improved graphics and cool new characters. The main concern right now is whether the game will play just like the original and offer little innovation. Hopefully, Capcom will be able to add enough to the game to make it worth playing. Last Words: Despite the fact that Onimusha 2 looks like a prettier version of the first game, I still have a lot of hope for it. The new characters look interesting, and the graphics do look much better. As long as the sequel is not too much like the original, all will be fine. However, there are enough interesting things (a trading system where you trade an item you bought for a better item) to make Onimusha 2 different from it’s predecessor. As long as it doesn’t get too repetitious then the game will be stellar. Onimusha 2 is currently set for a fall release.
