HeadHunter

Date: 3/6/02

Introduction: Headhunter was one of Sega’s last major UK releases. It was an action/adventure game that had elements of MGS and other games in the genre. Now, thanks to Acclaim and Sega this great title is coming out for PS2 in the US. Main Preview: Headhunter is looking like a 007/MGS-type game. The game puts you in control of Jack Wade, a 007 look-alike. The game puts you in various missions, ranging from regular old shooting missions to stealth missions. The game has improved over its Dreamcast counterpart with sharper graphics and bigger levels. Whether the control and gameplay will remain smooth is not known though. Acclaim’s PS2 ports of Crazy Taxi and 18-Wheeler have not been the greatest, so hopefully Headhunter will now follow this trend.

My Thoughts: I have yet to play the UK import of Headhunter on DC, so I am interested in the PS2 version. However, judging Acclaim’s previous track record, there is a bit of doubt here. The other main question is whether the game will have enough depth to satisfy gamers. I have doubts, but still think the game has a chance for success.

Last Words: As long as Acclaim doesn’t screw up the formula too much, Headhunter has the possibility to be a solid action/adventure title. It may not end up as epic as MGS, but still looks like it could be a rewarding game. Headhunter hits US shores on April 29th.
