Introduction: Final Fantasy is finally going online. A lot
of rumors had been around for a long time about a Final Fantasy Online,
and now it is finally happening. Squaresoft has finally turned FF into an
online title, for better or worse. It still is looking great, and that is
reason enough to get excited.
Main Preview: The Final Fantasy series has always been a
spectacular one-player adventure that attracted millions of fans
worldwide. Well now, all those fans will be able to unite and play FF on
the Internet using their PS2. So far, it is not known whether you will
need the hard drive or not to play the game, but it currently doesn’t seem
likely that it will be needed. The main thing people are concerned about
are whether or not the game will tell an epic story while people play it
online, which is what has become expected of the series. The other thing
that isn’t known yet either is what the game will be like. It hasn’t
really been shown, but it looks to be an Action/RPG. The other interesting
thing is that you don’t have to be a human, you can be an elf or any other
type of creature.
My Thoughts: I am interested in FF11 a lot. Unlike other
people, I never experienced Phantasy Star Online so I have never
experienced an online console RPG. I still think it has a chance to be a
huge success. Whether it has an epic story or not, I still think it looks
awesome.
Last Words: FF11 will be a departure from the standard
type of RPG, but it is looking great. If it is indeed an Action/RPG as the
screens seem to make you think, it will be awesome. Even if it doesn’t
have a big action packed story, it could still turn out great. FF11 is set
for a release in late 2002, or early 2003. It may be far away, but is
already looking to be something unique from Squaresoft. Here’s hoping it
turns out great, and that it makes it out before 2003.
