Introduction: Nintendo has begun to show that it does make Mature games for it’s Gamecube, which has mostly been called a kiddy system. Now it has begun to get more dark and moody games. Nintendo has already got a big latch on the Resident Evil series, and now they are showing their own dark side with Eternal Darkness. Main Preview: Eternal Darkness is looking very solid so far. To touch on the graphics, they look superb. The characters are well modeled and look pretty realistic. And there are some pretty freaky looking enemy designs. Some of them are nothing that you haven’t seen in any other horror game but ED should have it’s fair share of new creatures waiting to surprise you. Although not much else other than still screenshots have been shown ED should have a fairly creepy musical score. Hopefully the sound will be creepy and disturbing like most of the games in the genre. The only thing that could really mess up the mood in ED would be if any voice acting used were sub-par. The control hasn’t been revealed yet either but will hopefully be solid. What is known right now is that you will play different characters throughout different time periods, and using weapons for that time period. It sounds pretty neat, and helps make ED different from the other games in the genre. My Thoughts: I think that ED has the potential to be a superb and unique Nintendo game. Most Nintendo games have a very kiddy look to them, but if the company can prove they can make adult games as well I am very happy to see it. There are some unique aspects of the game that make it worth looking at. While it won’t have too many innovations that truly change the survival horror genre dramatically, its unique aspects still add to the game. Last Words: ED really has a chance to be one of the first mature Nintendo games, and possible one of their best. While there is still a lot to learn about the game, more should be found out soon. Currently the game is on track by the summer or fall of this year, but there is still no set release date. The Gamecube needs more game like this, and so do gamers. It really is looking good, but not too much is known yet. Ultimately, it may still be relatively far away but is still looking great. Written by dragonryu. |
