Based upon some of the same attributes of Chrono Trigger, Chrono Cross remarkably exceeded the expectation of many gamers. The game has some of the best things an RPG can have. Just the fact that it's from Square is a big compliment. Chrono Cross has a complete variety of graphics in its story. The FMVs have the same superior qualities of a Final Fantasy game on PSone. However, since the game is so long, the amount of FMVs had to be reduced. The FMVs often show up when you have made a great accomplishment, such as beating a boss. This is convenitent since the gamer has a moment of relaxation after some tough times. Still, good graphics go way beyond the FMVs. All the environments have a crystal-clear artistic background, where it seems like cameras in hidden spots capture where go. These graphics are about as good as the FMVs. 3D graphics are rarely used in Chrono Cross. Basically, the only 3D graphics used are to develop character shapes and battle environments. Don't take this badly though, since PSone 3D graphics are 16-bit. In other words, The high-quality background images in each setting are much more advanced graphically than 3D backgrounds. The music used in Chrono Cross is some of the best RPG music. Some songs are made as a lull, and some are made with full beats. Sometimes the songs can get very addictive! Not all battles will have the same battle or boss music. On the second disc, all the boss battle songs are different! Since there are two parallel dimensions, each place in the different dimension has a different song. As the gamer would progress in the game, the songs used in places that are often visited would change. The gameplay in Chrono Cross is unique from many other RPGs. Instead of using magic, the gamer uses elements. Depending on how much your allies attack physically, the gamer's ability of using elements vary. The characters also have stamina, which limits how many physical attacks an ally can make. About everything in the game is based in 2D, except for the battles. There is an endless story to the game, with many events from the past, present and future. The gameplay in Chrono Cross is very interesting since it is realistic and incorporates some very cool things in it. Chrono Cross is a very durable game for any RPG fan. It won't matter if the gamer is novice or hardcore, since the leveling up system is not as free as other RPGs. Gamers can only get a certain amount of HP after every battle, depending on the last time the gamer fought a boss. This does mean that the gamer can't keep on powering-up when the gamer is stuck on a boss. Still, luck plays a big role in the game, and if the gamer lost many times to a boss, sometimes the foe will use weaker attacks. Chrono Cross is indeed a long RPG. Most of the gameplay is in disc 1, but disc 2 takes about the same time to beat because of the hard bosses. There aren't many optional quests. Usually they are secrets. Also, the game isn't crafted in a way to get the gamer stuck on something forever. Depending on the gamer's choices in dialogue and travel, the story of the game changes. This can make your game very long, or very short. Once the game is beaten, it's not quite done yet. The gamer can restart the game and see all the endings. This isn't very hard since the party would have the same HP when restarting a game from the part when the game was beaten. There is much to do in Chrono Cross, and it may be the only game the gamer
may want to touch in a few months. I give this game a 9.5 for it's superio
quality.
